Well after desktops and web cell phone market is the next big thing and everyone is gonna agree with me. Now let's have a look at the mobile platforms in the market:
BREW - Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless
RIM - Research In Motion aka BlackBerry
Symbian - An Alliance (Nokia, Sony, Samsung etc.)
Linux - many modified versions available
OpenMoko (Linux Based Kernel)
Android - Open Handset Alliance (Linux Based Kernel)
iPhone - Apple
Windows Mobile - used mainly for PDAs
Palm OS - used mainly for PDAs
Java 2 ME (Not an OS but is used for development of approx. 700 handsets around the world excluding a few like iPhone )

So above are the major platforms for cellphones available in the market, now lets have a look at the sdk provided for development:
Sun Java Wireless Toolkit - Java 2 ME
Android Sdk
Nokia emulators
Intel's sdk for development of windows and linux based phones
sdk for openmoko platform (btw IBM is providing the tutorials for OpenMoko)
AOL is going to launch a sdk for developing applications for BREW, RIM, Symbian Java & Microsoft phones in the coming months. Its the AOL Open Mobile Platform
GNOME mobile platform is also on its way
also other companies like sony-ericsson do provide their sdks

Currently Java 2 ME is the highest used latform for development not only for handhelds but other electronic devices also. Symbian C++ is also highly used. We have Android coming up with a very strong Open Handset Alliance. So there is enough scope and options for developing mobile applications in various platforms. Here are a few pics showing FIC neo1973, and othe linux based phone

Batch Files/Programming

Hi, today we're going to see a bit of batch files/programming. Well batch files are simple scripts written to perform a series of tasks in our OS. Talking about Windows XP you can type a series of commands in any text editor like notepad and save it in .bat or .cmd extension and ur batch file is ready all u have to do is double click or run it in the command prompt. Btw the basic difference between .bat and .cmd is that .bat is an older version for 16 bit system while .cmd is for contemporary 32 systems. Batch programming includes almost everything variables, command line arguments, iteration, if-else etc. So batch files have a lot of potential in them. To learn more about batch programming goto Start -> Help and Support -> then search "Command Reference A-Z" then get familiar with the commands and then switch over to the actual batch programming which u'll be able to learn from Help and Support, just type in batch and give it a search and everything is in there. Now here's a piece of code that looks in for a particular file in the current drive, try it out:

@ECHO OFF
REM Find a file on this disk
IF !%1==! GOTO ERROR
ECHO Looking...
DIR \%1 /S /B > _TOTAL_
ECHO Total Finds:
FIND /C ":" _TOTAL_
IF ERRORLEVEL 1 GOTO NONE
PAUSE
MORE < _TOTAL_
:NONE
DEL _TOTAL_
GOTO END
:ERROR
ECHO Follow FINDER with the name of the file you want to find
:END

SSEC Research Club

Hi friends, this is the first post on the blog of Research Club. Research Club is an initiative taken by the 6th IT students of Shantilal Shah Engg. College, Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India. In this club we will be exploring the field of computer science and try out new technologies being developed. We will be discussing about programming techniques in various languages like C, C++, C#, VB.NET, Java etc. we'll also be discussing the practical aspects of networking, web development & design, multimedia etc. So let us hope this initiative of ours would be helpful to us in one way or the other.
That's it for this time folks keep checking the blog for latest updates, good bye & keep learning.
